Learning programming does not
need to be really hard ...
If you want to learn programming, you can start with Java, C++, or Visual Basic, but you may find their "syntax" (how commands must be written) hard to understand. You'll also be using highly complex software, like Visual Studio or Eclipse, that is optimized for big projects, not getting started. It gets pretty confusing, pretty quickly.
Or, you can minimize code syntax and focus on visualizing objects in a "drag-and-drop" environment, like Alice and Scratch. They are great for animating characters and creating stories but they also try to minimize how to work with syntax and algorithms in creating the "source" code of software. There are other choices too, such as Ruby and Python; they are more powerful than Alice and Scratch and simpler than Java, but still not that easy to learn (more like C or C++) and not accessible through development tools that have rich code editor controls and advanced debugging techniques, without all the added complexity of an environment like Microsoft Visual Studio or Eclipse.
