    Universe

Hello everybody, this is Da Phrog from like a year ago. I know I haven't been on in a long time and that is partially because i forgot both my username and password :( Eventually, I just made a new account after the forgotten password recovery e-mail never reached me. Since then, I have still been working on and continuing to "upgrade" my game. I am hoping eventually if it gets good enough that it might actually work as something I could sell if I compiled it. If another contest comes up with this in its category, I will probably enter it (hopefully it will work this time and I can get all the source files together). And if we get to vote for the next contest, I vote for the 3D category. :)

P.S. I am just curious, but did anybody get my program from last year and get it to work? If you did, please post, I would really appreciate some feedback if possible.

    Re: Universe

yes it has, if you search the site with keyword universe and then look up the ones relating to contests, you should find it. I tried to enter it for a contest and the media files wouldn't cooperate so I couldn't get them posted with the program before the contest deadline. My Universe game is a 3D program in which you battle a comuter player in the Milky Way galaxy. Hope that's the kind of of information you were looking for. I will probably try to post the game again soon with all the new updates i've made to it since then. I doubt I will be able to enter it into a contest since it is 2,300 lines of code. Anyway, I'm not entering it right now because I still have ideas for it.

    Re: Universe

I know you posted it, I'm just saying that if you want people to look then you should provide a direct link rather than expecting people to hunt it down. Too lazy or busy...

    Re: Universe

Your lucky, you caught me at a good time! I'm psycing myself up at the moment for a project that I'm going to do not only in the language of Pascal but Phrogram as well...at the same time. Hopefully they will be completed both in a month. Should be interesting to see the differing results...working on a project can do your head in I know that! Plus my son and I need to get started for an idea for the summer competition...

I searched 'universe' out and in short:-

I can't get it to run. Files are missing or it could just be me...?

It sounds like a good project from what you say so, best post what you did before on here or what you are currently working on, if you so wish...

"you should provide a direct link rather than expecting people to hunt it down. Too lazy or busy..."

O.K I'll remember that but I just found out that half the media files are missing so it doesn't matter. I'll remember for net time though thanks!

O.K, I just tried to figure out the problem everybody had with downloading my program and it appears that it is missing at least half of the media files needed to run it >:( so I guess unless somebody took a LOT of time to replace all the media files in code, there's no way they could run it anyway... sorry. It isn't the most updated version anyway and I believe I found some bugs in it that I have fixed in this new one.

And TomDad, it's not just you, I have been having major problems every time I try to post this game.

One last question, I just tried to post it here and after it finished loading everything, the little window in the middle said that the page couldnot be displayed. What am I doing wrong?

    Re: Universe

How big is the file? email it to me (zman@thezbuffer.com) and I will have a go at uploading it.

Copy it to its own folder and check it runs with all the media first though.

    Re: Universe

I did exactly that and the program runs perfectly but of course its going to run perfect in the test and then explode later... don't most things happen like that?

Anyway, I'm e-mailing you the file as soon as I'm done posting this.

EDIT: sorry forgot to mention size of file, its 16.4 MB

    Re: Universe

You are quite correct 16Mb appears to be too much for the server... you will have to upload it to a file storage server - this one looks pretty good  http://www.mediafire.com/

    Re: Universe

I'm sorry for not responding for so long, I was out camping and when I got back and checked the forums, this post was below the bottom 5 which is usually what I check first. So I forgot about it. Thanks a lot for this link though. I have never used this website before so hopefully everything will go smoothly and please tell me if I'm missing any files even though I double checked everything.

Here is the download link for my game... http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?neijvzhpb4v

    Enjoy!

    Re: Universe

That is a good effort, don't understand 3D how do you "fly" forward ie move thru space just can go round and round cant work out how to accelerate and move around through space.

Also would be great to have a help function that allows you just to re-cap the full instructions,

very pro tho so cool stuff!

    Re: Universe

Thank you. I apologize for the lack of help tabs and instructions throughout the game code. I really am still learning lots about it myself so I don't feel comfortable telling people how I do what I do in the game. Personally, I think 3D programming is much easier than 2D image slicers etc, or at least with Phrogram. And I just want to double-check this... the game worked right?
