Unlike prior announcements on contest results, I won't write a very long post this time, mainly because there were only two entries:

LFS, your talent as a programmer and your inventiveness with Phrogram is an inspiration to me - hopefully, many other Phrogrammers have been learning from your many examples as well. This entry, Phoxxi, is up to your usual standards - its logic is solid, the fidelity to the game it emulates (Boxxi) is excellent, and it's also very nicely commented. Overall, another outstanding program - and by default, you win the contest in the "over-18" category (because I happen to know that Chessboy is under the age of 18 ;)).

Chessboy, I had the pleasure of meeting you over a year ago when you visited Seattle with your parents. With Defend Your Village, it is clear that your skills have grown considerably since your first entry, for last year's math contest. I just commented on your program in another post, and it looks like there are a few "runtime error" glitches that you may want to fix. But overall, your concept and execution is truly exceptional, especially for a person your age (more than a few years younger than 18 Wink ). And since you did not have any competition in the "18-and-under" category, you win the contest too!

As an aside, low participation has been an issue for our last few contests. When we first started Phrogram, they got our user community interested and motivated to come up with examples of what they could do. We have a bigger user community now but for some reason, the last few contests hasn't generated much interest. So, we may take a break and try to think of other ways to encourage users to interact and develop programs. If anyone has any ideas, email me! Smile

So, to LFS and Chessboy - your prizes for entering (and thereby winning) the E-O-D contest - -

  • Any add-in library of your choice - whichever one you don' have and would like, let me know .. as well as ...
  • Phrogram 3.0, when released (that is, you won't have to pay the upgrade price, which will probably be around $25-30). Now, for people who have been following Phrogram for awhile, you may chuckle, as you'll know 3.0 has been a topic of discussion for nearly forever, but nothing ever comes out about it. Unfortunately, due to a variety of situations that we have been plodding through, and mostly resolving, it's release date is still officially TBD. But it will be this year - - if not, I don't think Phrogram will last much longer than this year Super Angry. We have a clear, realizable path to product development, with Zman and rSundahl leading the charge. So, with any luck, I will report more progress on how it is shaping up soon. And, if you've been waiting for 3.0 (XNA replacing DirectX, plus other programming goodies that are still being worked out) hang in there with us!

I guess this has been a fairly long post after all ... If you've read this far ... thanks for being part of the Phrogram community!

Well done winners, we could have entered! That sounds daft but..hey ho...

We posted what we would have done on a new post., I'm sure you'll find it!

Sound like your working hard on 3.0...can't wait to see the efforts.

(By the way will look at the entries just don't have time at the mo to find the  tools to extract them)
